Man faces array of drug charges after traffic crash

One Florida teen is facing multiple charges related to drug crimes and related activities after a traffic collision in Ocala. The crash, which took place on March 13 at around 3:00 in the morning, involved a large semi-truck fuel tanker and a silver Toyota Corolla. It occurred at a Kangaroo gas station located at the corner of US Route 441 and NE 35th Street.

Police claim that when they approached the silver Corolla, they detected a strong smell of marijuana and searched the vehicle. When searching the vehicle, the police say that they found over 20 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and alcohol in addition to 10 assorted traffic signs. The speed limit signs, a Do Not Enter sign and a stop sign had reportedly been stolen from various locations around Ocala. The 18-year-old driver of the Toyota Corolla was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges, including both felony and misdemeanor count.

He is charged with drug crimes, including possession of marijuana over 20 grams, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia, in addition to grand theft, possession of alcohol under 21 and criminal mischief. The driver was taken to the county jail and held on a $30,500 bond.

In Florida, being charged with drug crimes can lead to serious consequences. The state is known for aggressive prosecution in drug cases, which means that even first-time offenders could face prison time and a felony criminal record that will follow them for years. A criminal defense attorney may help people facing drug charges to present a defense and work to keep them out of jail. A lawyer might work to challenge questionable police evidence or practices while presenting defense before and during a trial.
